13-19 November. Hall 16, stand C01 Our perception is that industrial vehicle OEMs in agriculture, as well as in other segments, are faced with challenges in the area of Human Machine Interaction. One obvious driver is the Smartphone trend, making end users expect more from the HMI in terms of usability and interaction. Related to this, it is quite common that the operator cannot utilize the full potential and capability of a complex machine. Another challenge is the software domain; hardware is often supplied with proprietary software solutions which limit possibilities for OEMs to realize desired functionality.

CrossControl has launched two new HMI product platforms for industrial vehicles; the Intel Atom-based CCpilot XM and the ARM11-based CCpilot XA.

CrossControl, the Sweden-based provider of industrial vehicle control solutions, establishes operations in Germany. The German office will be headed by Yassine Zoubir, previously CEO within ArcelorMittal. Up till 2007, Mr. Zoubir was Division Manager for ifm’s ecomat mobile.

HICAN (High Integrity CAN) is a protocol and an implementation which enables reliable detection of communication errors occurring between any two nodes in an ordinary CAN network. It is developed as a simpler and cheaper alternative to CANopen Safety, with the specific aim to meet the demands of safety-related systems and applications.

Integrated Fleet Management is a solution that enables industrial vehicle OEMs to leverage onboard intelligence for improved Machine-to-machine offerings.

Industrial vehicles have been fitted with in-cab displays for many years, starting with simpler, text-based systems. As the user expectations are getting higher and interaction through graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and the touchscreens is increasing, the importance of advanced human-machine interaction is also growing.

CrossControl has strengthened its portfolio specifically in the area of HMI solutions. At Agritechnica 13-19 November 2011 we will demonstrate our new line of display computers together with an open software framework for GUI development. You find us in hall 16, stand C01.

The Smartphone boom seen in the last couple of years drives new expectations on HMI and usability in industrial vehicles. New generations of operators will expect touch screen interaction and top-notch graphical interfaces. The CCpilot XA display computer platform enables vehicle OEMs to meet these expectations.

CrossControl is strengthening its engineering organisation with both senior and junior product/system developers.

On May 18 CrossControl organised a seminar in Frankfurt on the topic “HMI solutions for higher competitiveness”. With end users of industrial vehicles starting to have Smartphones as the reference for usability and interaction friendliness, they will be expecting a similar experience with the HMI in the vehicle they are operating. This is a challenge for the industrial vehicle sector and the objective with the seminar was to inspire the participants by showing how this is made possible in industrial vehicle contexts.

Functional safety has received increased attention through stricter legislation and new and updated international standards. Machines with embedded electronic systems are performing more and more advanced functions and vehicles are becoming autonomous. While new functionalities promise enhanced safety and improved performance, they are also associated with new faults, failure modes and risks. For this reason, CrossControl pushes various activities to evolve safety engineering in the industrial vehicle business.
